Blue Dog Coalition Endorses Rep. Sinema’s Legislation to Combat Terrorism Financing, Passes the House
Today, H.R. 3364, the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, passed the U.S. House of Representatives, 419-3. This bill includes Blue Dog-endorsed legislation designed to combat terrorism financing. The legislation, written by Blue Dog Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), establishes a whole-of-government strategy to combat the financing of terrorism.
H.R. 3364, the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, also includes a sanctions agreement that holds Iran, Russia, and North Korea accountable for their efforts to undermine global peace and security and ensures strong Congressional oversight of sanctions against these authoritarian regimes.
“Terrorist organizations pose a serious threat to our national security, and it is critical that we cut off the funding that supports these groups,” said Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). “I regularly hear from Arizonans who are concerned about the safety of their families and fellow Americans. I’m grateful for the Blue Dogs’ support of this commonsense solution that ensures the United States denies funding to terrorists and protects America and our allies.”
“As Blue Dogs, we pride ourselves on our reputation of pursuing policies that ensure a strong national defense and national security apparatus for our country,” said Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Blue Dog Co-Chair for Communications. “We are proud of Congresswoman Sinema’s leadership on combating terrorism financing. Thanks to her work, this bill ensures that we’ll have a comprehensive and effective strategy to deny money to terrorists, strengthening our nation’s national security goals.”
