Blue Dog Co-Chairs Announce Support for Continuing Resolution If Progress Is Made To Achieve Omnibus Appropriations Bill
WASHINGTON – Today, the co-chairs of the fiscally responsible Blue Dog Coalition—Reps. Jim Costa (D-CA), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), and Dan Lipinski (D-IL)—issued the following statement regarding the Continuing Resolution to keep the government open:
“Since the founding of the Blue Dog Coalition, together, we have called for responsible governance. This includes keeping the government open and fully-functioning. We cannot continue to operate deadline-to-deadline, creating self-inflicted crises along the way.
“We support a Continuing Resolution if progress is being made towards resolving outstanding issues and to help achieve the larger omnibus appropriations bill to fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year.
“Responsible governance also means working with the other side to come to a compromise for the sake of the nation. For far too long, this process has been divided and paralyzed by partisanship. We call on our Republican and Democratic colleagues to come together in order to overcome the pattern of congressional gridlock. The Blue Dogs stand ready to work with their colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get this done in the House.”
